I am extremely lucky to have been awarded an ARC Linkage grant together with our partner Siemens Healthineers to advance deep learning applications for medical imaging in the next 3 years. It’s not just exciting because this is my first grant I have ever won, but also because this project contains all the aspects I am super excited about to work on.

Also, particularly important to me personally is that this grant follows after multiple years of trying very hard to acquire funding but being constantly rejected – up to a point that I started questioning if I am a researcher or if I should consider finding a different job. My UQ-researcher profile even keeps a list of the attempts and it’s a great reminder that science is more like a long multi-pitch trad route than a short boulder problem:
