{"id":19,"date":"2020-05-27T07:45:19","date_gmt":"2020-05-27T07:45:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/mri.sbollmann.net\/?page_id=19"},"modified":"2020-06-09T00:21:45","modified_gmt":"2020-06-09T00:21:45","slug":"saskia","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/mri.sbollmann.net\/index.php\/saskia\/","title":{"rendered":"Saskia"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>I&#8217;m a Biomedical Engineer by training<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"1\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000004250000000000000000_19\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000004250000000000000000_19-1\">1<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000004250000000000000000_19-1\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"1\">B.Sc. at the Ilmenau Technical University and M.Sc. at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (ETH) Zurich<\/span> and I&#8217;m investigating how the measurement device (= MRI scanner) interacts with the signal generator (= brain).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, during my PhD at the Centre for Advanced Imaging, University of Queensland, we could show how the increase in sampling rate provided by simultaneous multislice imaging considerably changes the spectral properties of the fMRI signal.<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"2\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000004250000000000000000_19\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000004250000000000000000_19-2\">2<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000004250000000000000000_19-2\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"2\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S1053811917308698\" target=\"_blank\">Serial correlations in single-subject fMRI with sub-second TR<\/a><\/span>However, also the participant can impact the MRI scanner: at ETH Zurich we investigated how the magnetic field created by the person in the scanner affects the image formation.<sup class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote \" data-mfn=\"3\" data-mfn-post-scope=\"00000000000004250000000000000000_19\"><a href=\"javascript:void(0)\"  role=\"button\" aria-pressed=\"false\" aria-describedby=\"mfn-content-00000000000004250000000000000000_19-3\">3<\/a><\/sup><span id=\"mfn-content-00000000000004250000000000000000_19-3\" role=\"tooltip\" class=\"modern-footnotes-footnote__note\" tabindex=\"0\" data-mfn=\"3\"><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sciencedirect.com\/science\/article\/abs\/pii\/S1053811917300149\" target=\"_blank\">Analysis and correction of field fluctuations in fMRI data using field monitoring<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ultimately, my goal is to fine tune the data acquisition using my understanding of the fundamental principles of MRI and brain structure and function.
